Charlie - Custom
I met Charlie in 2005, while studying at Moore College of Art & Design. I asked Charlie to be my runway model for my first fashion show my Sophmore year. She immediately said yes! We had a blast back then working together. I never would have thought that we would be working together again! If I recall correctly, Charlie made a statement that stuck with me, saying that she wanted me to make her wedding dress if she were to ever marry. I thought that was a kind request, but didn't realize that it would happen because at that time I was a ready-to-wear designer.
During our college years, we grew apart as we focused on careers and family. A few years after graduating we reconnected through the powers of social media.
In 2014 Charlie told me that she was engaged. I quickly asked her if I could make her dress. It was perfect timing for I was starting to work with custom clients in bridal. It was fate! I booked her during the time I was still working out of my dinning room/studio. It was exciting to hold our consultation in my actual showroom! We couldn't believe it together, reminiscing about college and how it really happened, "You are a real designer." Charlie said.
The process with Charlie was easy, fun and exciting. I really enjoy collaborating with other creative people, especially those that think outside the box of bridal. My favorite part was that she let me have full artistic design freedom! I am so so so thrilled with the outcome of this dress.
The dress is a rich plum strapless gown with a sheer grey overlay. The overlay is removable so that Charlie could have a dress change. The overlay has hand beaded appliques and ribbon wrapped around the waist line which goes into the center back hook and eye closure. The overall look of the gown is slim to flatter her curves with a subtle train and flutter sleeves. The gown was inspired by a mix of Victorian and gothic time periods.
Thank You Charlie, for allowing me to be apart of your day. xo Sheila
