Katie - Upcycle
I met Katie many moons ago during my retail years in working at the mall. Never would I have imagined a decade and a half later, that I would be creating something special for Katie. When she asked me to design her dress, I was excited because Katie is a sweetheart. I love working with friends, but almost feel intimidated because I want everything to be perfect. I knew that working with her was going to be such a wonderful experience.
The custom process was a lot of fun with Katie and her daughter Ema. Katie gave me a hand-me-down dress to incorporate the fabric into the designs for both her and Ema. We ended up with a really cool idea for both Katie and Ema.
Katie's ceremony dress was a sweetheart bodice with a long full skirt which came off for the reception to reveal a tea length dress which was paired with a plunging lace bolero. Ema's ceremony dress had a beautiful puffy tulle skirt and lace balero which came off to reveal a spaghetti strap comfy tea length dress.
Every fitting was filled with excitement from family and friends that Katie invited to experience the custom process. It was neat to see their faces when they realized that the dresses had different elements to create a new look.
