Stacey - Upcycle

Referred by my friend Ashley, Stacey came to me with two requests: lace and flowy. Stacey had not even tried on another dress! She knew right from the start that she wanted something different from the typical bridal gown, so having a dress made would be her best bet.

Every appointment with Stacey and her mom was like spending time with old friends. Stacey is kind, soft spoken and uplifting. I immediately knew what to do for Stacey. She wanted boho vibes, but not too hippie. We decided on a sweetheart neckline, plunging back, sheath fit with sweep train. Stacey considered a large train but didn’t settle on that decision till after our sample fitting.  We went back and forth of fabric ideas and were hoping to find something non-traditional.

At our sample fitting Stacey brought her grandmothers dress from the 1940’s and asked if there was a way to incorporate the fabric into her dress. For those that know me… this is kind of my thing! I enjoy taking something old and making it new.

I used Oxy Clean White Revive to give new life to her grandmother’s dress. We incorporated the original train to snap in as Stacey’s big train for the Ceremony. Unfortunately the fibers were not holding up to allow us to use the fabric as actual panels in the body of the dress.

I stayed true to the sketch, which some custom clients know the dress may evolve through the process. We were fortunate that this style looked just perfect on Stacey! I found an ivory modern stretch lace and paneled the fabric to create a one of a kind look. After I constructed the dress, I knew it needed something to pop so I hand appliqued a scallop trim on the sweetheart which wrap from the strap to the low back.

Stacey had mentioned the weather, and wasn’t sure if it would be cool in the evening of her reception. So on the eve before the final dress pickup, I decided to make a shawl for Stacey from the left over fabric of her grandmother’s dress.

It was so nice to work with Stacey and her mother, as they were unbelievably easy going and flexible.

Thank You Stacey, for allowing me to be apart of your day. xo Sheila
